Mission Statement:

The Cohanzie Fire Co #5 Inc. is dedicated to the highest quality service in the protection of Life, Incident Control through mitigation and Property conservation for the residents and visitors to the Town of Waterford and our surrounding neighbors when called upon.  We shall strive to prevent the loss of life and property through prevention and education and shall prepare for any emergency when called through training and planning.

Who We are:

 Welcome to the homepage of the Cohanzie Fire Company. The Cohanzie Fire Company is one of five fire companies which serve the Town of Waterford. The Cohanzie Fire Company was established on January 19th 1942 and led by it's first chief, Stanley Morgan whom also donated the land that the Fire Company sits on today. The Cohanzie fire company was established as the residents of Cohanzie section of town realized that with increasing demands of service and the very real threat of enemy attack or sabotage during WWII, surrounding fire companies would be unable to respond to the Cohanzie area in a timely and effective manner.
 
66 years later the Cohanzie Fire Company still stands in preparation to protect and defend it's residents and support it's sister fire companies. The Cohanzie Fire Company is responsible for the life and property from Broad Street Extension/Route 85 from the New London Town Line to the Montville Town Line and adjoining side streets, Interstate 95 from the New London Town Line to the East Lyme Town Line, I-395 from the Montville Town Line to the East Lyme Town Line and Vauxhall Street Extension from the New London Town Line to the Montville Town Line and it's adjoining side streets. 

The Cohanzie Fire Company is actively accepting applications for Firefighters, EMT's, and Rescue Divers. Initial training provided. To be eligible to join the applicant shall be: At least 18 years of age, have no felony convictions, be able to pass an initial physical and drug screening. Further information available by stopping by the fire station and picking up an application.

The Cohanzie District is as diverse as it is large as it covers residential, commercial and industrial sections as well as all the hazards associated with two major highways and a state route. The Cohanzie Fire Company is the "Rescue Company" for the town of Waterford as the Towns Heavy Rescue truck is based here. This vehicle along with the trained members of the fire company are capable of dealing with major motor vehicle accidents, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue and Collapse as well as low angle and water rescue. Our Company is also one of the Regional Decontamination resources for the Regional Hazardous Materials Team, as such our members receive additional training as Hazardous Materials Technicians. The Company is also equipped with a 1000 gallon Pumper, 75 Foot Tower Ladder, a front line and spare ambulance as well as Brush Truck.
 
The Cohanzie Fire Company is also one of the founding members in the Towns Rescue Dive team which can perform surface rescue swimmer functions and underwater search, rescue and recovery.
